Bennett Spring Fishing Report for 10-13-2011

How's Fishing?

The regular fishing season is almost over for 2011 at Bennett Spring. The weather has been as good this fall as it was difficult in the spring. Every weekend has been better than the last! I hope you get a chance to throw the line in the water one more time before it gets cold. People have been catching lots of fish lately and enjoying the beautiful Ozark autumn we've been having.

For the year the tag sales were 119,087 which is 10.08% less than the previous year. However, September tag sales were up 4.4%. Perhaps it's just as simple as the fact that the weather finally cooperated. Following is the report for the month of September with tag sales over time. It's interesting to think about what was happening in the world and how it affected the number of people who were fishing.

Tag Sales by Year
1999 19753
2000 19183
2001 19691
2002 19714

2007 18780
2008 14386
2009 17120
2010 15980
2011 16643

Water Conditions - Exactly what they were last week. Can you do better than perfect two weeks in row?

• The Spring is currently putting out 153 cubic feet per second.

Bennett Spring Fishing Report for 10-6-2011

How's Fishing?

The water is absolutely beautiful. Looking into the stream you can see nine, almost ten, feet down to the bottom. Watch your step!

The season is winding down. The annual Holland tournament is this weekend. October 7th, 8th and 9th. If the amount of rooms booked in this area is any indication, it's not just about fishing, but about finishing up the season and visiting with old friends once more while the weather is good.

A note to those of you with felt footed waders: cleated boots might be a good thing to ask Santa for this year. It looks like felt soled waders or wading boots will be banned statewide with the start of the 2012 season. For information about this problem and what the state is doing about it - go to these links: Department of Conservation - Didymo or Conservation Dept. puts anglers on alert. The second link was posted October 4th of this year.

Bennett Spring Fishing Report for 9-29-2011

How's Fishing

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the open house for the hatchery, so I'm not able to give a first hand account of the event. (the best I can do is a first hand report of the cold everyone is passing around). However, our faithful photographers, George Sharon and Hubert were there and took some great pictures. A warm thank you to them for doing that for us.

Tag sales this last weekend were up from last year. 997 on Saturday this year compared to 843 last year. On Sunday 730 tags were sold - 643 last year, The fishing has been steady. Very few people are getting 'skunked', not that many catching bazillions, but most are somewhere in between. There are fish to be caught and some are of a good size. Speaking of that, there was a pretty good size brown caught by an angler who is from this area. His name is Gary Madole. He caught a 13.4 brown on a white bug in zone 2. Definitely the catch of a lifetime. Congratulations Gary.

Bennett Fishing Report for 9-22-11

How's Fishing?

The big news at the stream is the dedication of the hatchery this week.  The dedication and open house is Thursday the 22nd, at 1:30 pm. The Conservation Department people have been working to get everything ready for the big day.   The first generation of trout will be born and bred in their new quarters this fall.

The fishing was very good last weekend, but has slowed down a bit.  Fewer people come down this time of year, so there are plenty of great fishing spots for those who do.  Top water is really good this time of year.  It's lots of fun for those anglers that prefer that kind of fishing. The water continues to be higher and faster than normal for this time of year, but is nice and clear.  The weather is cool, wind is calm and the skies mostly sunny all week long.  Hope you can make it!

Water Conditions

•       The Spring is currently putting out 178 cubic feet per second. There was a small spike to 22 CFU's over the weekend..

•       The water level currently measures 2.09 feet at the Gage House.

•       The water continues to be clear and blue-green in color.

Weather Conditions
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Calm wind from the northwest around 5 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 72.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 74.
