Bennett Spring Fishing Report for 3-5-2012

How's Fishing?

We had a beautiful day for opening.  It reached 73 degrees before the day was over.  There were fewer tags than expected sold, close to 1700.  Those who came into our store were saying the size and numbers of fish appeared to be better than last year. 19 lunkers were turned in here at Weavers.
Although the rest of the weekend was not as warm as opening day, the weather was clear, but sometimes windy.  Friday was a very tough day for fishing for some reason. Perhaps because of the front that came through and the resulting change in temperature. However, Saturday and Sunday were much better.
Didymo continues to be a topic of conversation.  To find more information about this, check the previous report or go to the Missouri of Conservation website.
http://www.mo.gov/Recreation/Outdoors/Fishing/  - official Spring site.
On a previous report, I asked if anyone knew of a shoe repair shop that would resole waders.  I got an email from Janice Brock - coincidentally the first angler to bring a lunker up this season - with a name she got from Feathercraft Fly Shop in St. Louis.  The name of the store is Craftwell and Dunnright at 520 Bailey Road, Crystal City, Missouri.  Their phone is 636-987-4200.  They will replace a felt sole with a Vibram sole by Simms.  Thank you, Janice.

Quote of the day

There were lots of people who committed crimes during the year who would not have done so if they had been fishing, and I assure you that the increase in crime is due to a lack of those qualities of mind and character which impregnate the soul of every fisherman except those who get no bites.
