Bennett Spring Fishing Report for 5-3-12
It's been such a great year at Bennett. There are days when the fish seem pretty elusive, but generally people are catching. We were talking with one loyal angler yesterday who said "This has been the best day I have had at Bennett - ever!" So. either he has finally learned to fish, or the conditions are really good.
The water is rising but it's not even close to the 75 percentile, It is discolored from the runoff, but by this weekend, it should have cleared considerably.
Kids' Fishing Day is coming up on May 5th. There will be volunteers to help kids learn to fish. Kids can bring there own rods, or borrow one from the hatchery. Lunch will be provided from eleven am to one pm. Thank you to Jim Caselman, a resident of Fishing Tales Campground, who has arranged through his work to have Farmland donate all the hot dogs for the kids.
The fishing times are 6:30 am to 8:15 pm. Educational programs, such as fly tying, will happen between 9am and 2pm. It's a great time to introduce a young person to the sport of trout fishing.
We look forward to seeing the kids. Weaver's Tackle Store will have an album on facebook for kids' fishing day. Bring your catch, regardless of size, to the store and we will add your face and fish to it. (no names, just smiling faces). If a kiddo should happen to catch a lunker, which is two pounds or better for our list, we will put their name on this fishing report as well.
Also, remember that the Hatchery is still giving tours on the first and third Saturdays of each month. They have a knowledgeable volunteer, Carol, who is there to answer your questions and give an overview of how the whole process works.
Anyone not hear about the ban on felt waders? See the previous week's report for more information.

Quote of the week
Somewhere in the wide range of activity between the hard physical effort of wading for long hours against a swift current in a rocky stream, casting steadily, and the indolence of lying quietly in the sun waiting for a bobber to go under there is a type of angling to suit everyone's mood and everyone's pocketbook. Fishing is fishing wherever it is found... Angling's problems are never solved.
